This studio focuses on the complex and intricate relationship between built urban form and supporting natural wetland systems within Kigali. Students will conduct a detailed analysis and devise sustainable design strategies for a site within Kigali. This will first at a masterplan level and then at an architectural scale of an element within this strategy, in greater detail. The studio emphasizes an analytically driven approach to understanding urban or peri-urban systems; developing analyses into a conceptual framework which can drive a masterplan strategy; allowing the student to shift from varying scales while maintaining the consistency of the thought process or idea throughout. Students will be immersed in a studio environment and will be instructed through individual critiques and group pin-ups.
