The Bio-remediation is one of the potential strategy, which is natural biological
functions for the remediation of a variety of environmental damages.

This is a good system to use for waste water treatment, cheaper which can be applied in Rwampala wetland.

  1. is rwampala that polluted to acquire a bio-remediation facility!? i think as much as i saw peple still grow crops in rwampala but i think in rwampala where the wetland still function as one we can use the idea of bio-remediation in using and exploiting water sources in there get it filtered along the process and use it in activities other than irrigation.

    1. Rwampala is not polluted as wadi hanifah recently,in this valley there is no water treatment for rain water which can be useful for irrigation in Rwampala wetland. I appreciate Bio-remediation as a system which doesn't require energy consumption. any system similar to this can improve the quality of life of the neighborhood of Rwampala.

  2. 80% of disease in rwanda is water borne. 5% of people have access to running water from taps. Think about those statistics. The water in the Rwampara wetlands is possible contaminated. The fact that people continue to wash and grow vegetables there is a sign of need, not whether it is clean water or not; they have little choice.

Think about the 'appropriateness' of this bio-remediation. Is it suitable? How will this affect the current farming practices that already go on there.

YES it would be good if this work in Rwampara, but would it be good if you had to remove all the people's farming plots too? You have to think about the CAUSE (what is the reason for your ideas) and EFFECT (What will be the consequences of your ideas) when designing. Keep up the conversation! Its great.

  3. The big problem in Rwampala wetland is that; waste and rain water run over the wetland without any treatment which provoke the valley to be a storage of mosquitoes, people trouble for that. I think some thing to treat waste and rain water is needed like RETENTION POND which is natural system of water treatment proposed in Kigali City Master Plan.
