urbanus: cui zhu garden in shenzhen, china

situated above an urban roadway, 'cui zhu garden' is a plot of land that introduces urban farming to the city of shenzhen.  the site is positioned on one of the few hills in the municipality which were originally flatten in order to expand the community. Developed by chinese firm urbanus, the junction structure mimics the rolling landscape and establishes a human element to the mundane migrant travel  of the local residents. by coming into contact with soil and engaging an element of growth to the neighborhood, residents are able to connect and  establish points of interaction with one another. the scheme turned a common landscape design into a program with a deeper social consciousness.

Research of Sustainable Urban Development / c. Colomès + f. Nomdedeu architectes with Michael Rousseau architecte and Adrian Maston graphiste

This project focuses on the intersection of today’s cities with self-sustaining agricultural institutions that produce the necessary resources for an urban population.  The design of this proposal focuses on the mosaic of modern day living with a mixing of urban spaces with natural spaces, cultivated and uncultivated land and forests.  In this proposal, the teams of architects suggest reusing existing networks to create new urban spaces. The roads, lanes and paths support the city that develop on the whole territory while protecting the production of energy, food, flowers and plants along these new spaces.

Klaksvik City Center - LCLAOFFICE + Lateral Office

The city of Klaksvik has experienced remarkable growth, transforming from a city of five settlements of a mere 100 people to a modern town of 5000 inhabitants.  The population growth, fueled by the success of the fishing industry, has resulted in a certain level of development along the shorelines, but the urban center still has much potential for such interventions.
For their proposal, the landscape is considered an event space and series of urban rooms activated selected areas.  These rooms have been designed to have distinct programmatic and landscape characteristics, and their development could be phased over many years to respond to the city’s needs.
